If the drawing canvas displays automatically when an AutoShape is inserted and you don’t want to use the drawing canvas, press the Esc key before drawing the AutoShape. To turn off the drawing canvas permanently, click Tools on the menu bar, click Options, click the General tab, take out the check mark in the Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes check box, and then click the OK button.
